Two goals and 17 points in all 82 games, minus-one, on nearly eighteen minutes a night, most of it partnered with Ceci on the third pair.
The Finesse Game
Almost none, and that is the design. Thirty goals in 788 career games. He does not shoot, does not join the rush, and makes the safe first pass every time — which is a genuine skill when the alternative is a turnover at his own blue line.
The skating is smooth rather than quick, and the gap control is sound. He defends the rush by taking away the middle and forcing play to the outside, which is the whole of his method.
The Physical Game
Six-four and 215, and he uses the size positionally. He boxes out in front, he is strong on the wall, and he does not chase hits. He blocks a lot of shots.
The Intangibles
He spent a decade as the quiet half of a very good pairing in Pittsburgh, doing the defensive work while somebody else took the acclaim. Everything about his reputation is built on trustworthiness rather than ability.
He is thirty-five and his game has always depended on reading rather than skating, which is the profile that lasts. There is nothing here that will surprise anyone in either direction.
