Five goals and thirteen points in 61 games across Chicago and Edmonton, on about eleven minutes a night. Through 86 career games he has 20 points, which is a bottom-six rate.
The Finesse Game
Better hands than the frame suggests. He can make a play in tight, he protects the puck well below the goal line, and he has enough of a shot to score from the slot when the puck finds him there.
What he lacks is pace. He is not a quick skater, and against NHL defensemen that means the extra half-second he needs to make his play is not there. Most of his offense comes from getting to the net and from second chances rather than from anything he creates himself.
The Physical Game
Six-four and 218, and this is the part of his game that will keep him employed. He forechecks hard, is difficult to move off the puck, and is comfortable in the traffic that smaller skilled players avoid.
The Intangibles
Chicago’s second-round pick in 2021, and injuries have taken chunks out of three of his development years. He is twenty-three, which is still young enough for a big forward.
The path is a straightforward one: be the heavy, competent third-line winger who can take a shift with skilled centers and not sink it. He is close to that and has not held it down for a full season yet.
