Last Season
Two goals and eleven points in 51 games across St. Louis and Edmonton, under thirteen minutes a night. He has been a 30-point player before; he has not been one recently.
The Finesse Game
Quick, and the quickness is the whole file. He is a genuine burner in transition, dangerous shorthanded, and capable of turning a neutral-zone turnover into a chance by himself. He has a decent release when he uses it.
Away from the rush, the offense is thin. He does not win pucks below the goal line, he is not a factor on the cycle, and he has never generated much for linemates. When the speed does not produce, the shift produces nothing.
The Physical Game
Six-one and 189, and he plays a light game. He uses his stick and his angles well on the penalty kill, which is where most of his defensive value sits, but he is not going to out-muscle anybody for a puck.
The Intangibles
Coaches keep giving him a job because he can skate and kill penalties, and both of those travel. The production has been going down for long enough now that a bounce-back is a hope rather than an expectation.
A useful thirteenth forward on a deep team, which on this roster is exactly what he is being asked to be.
